2 Christmas cards and 2 Birthday cards

Birthday card for my eldest sister - her birthday is November 26th.

Birthday card for my son's friend. Her birthday is November 1st.

Birthday card for my niece.

My niece Krista is a Close to my Heart consultant. I bought some paper from her at an open house she had in Sep. When I was at the Creative Show, I found the patterned paper that matches the paper I bought from her. I made her this card. I hope she likes it.

Update on DH

Herb has come to the conclusion that he won't be able to curl this year. He had paid for it in advance and the curling club was kind enough to refund him his money minus a small admin. fee. His ankle is coming along nicely and the Dr. told him the bones have fused together and that for a man his age he is progressing very well. He takes the cast off at home sometimes and is walking around the house without it on. He says the ankle is still tender and sore but not as bad as pre-surgery which is good. He now works 4 hours a day and will be working 6 hours a day beginning next week Monday. He still gets short term disability as well as his pay so now he is getting a full week's pay which is good. He is still working light duty and will not be able to work his regular job until he can do without the cast and can get his safety shoes on. The ankle and foot are still a bit swollen so it is impossible for him to wear a shoe or safety shoe.

Beautiful fall colours and the Creative Show

DH drove me downtown to the Creative Show yesterday morning. I was a bit upset as he drove me there in his car and my sunglasses were in my car. The air was crisp and the sun was bright and I need sunglasses as my eyes tend to be very sensitive to bright sunlight. I quickly forgot about not having my sunglasses as while we were driving down the Don Valley Parkway on our way downtown, we saw some awesome fall colours - they were beautiful. I don't normally enjoy driving down the Parkway but yesterday I was a passenger and I was able to take in all the reds, golds, greens, rusts, oranges and yellows of all the trees. It's too bad you can't park along the road to take pictures as the trees were breathtaking.

I managed to get 5 of the 6 Weeks Dye Works floss required to stitch the Lizzie Kate coffee pattern so I was pleased with that. You are probably wondering why I didn`t buy them when I bought the pattern in Michigan last month. The store where I bought the pattern had all kinds of material for quilts and books on quiltmaking but very little in the way of cross stitch necessities. The lady in the store didn`t even know what evenweave fabric was - said she had never heard of it! They did carry Aida and some linen fabric but it was a very poor selection. The only floss they carried was good ol DMC.

I also spent some time in the paper craft section of the show and bought some patterned papers as well as 2 packages of embossed cards with envelopes. One package was embossed with snowflakes and the other one is embossed with a brocade pattern. I also bought some Christmas Sentiment stamps and 2 stamp pads as well as a roll of light blue ribbon.

DH picked me up at 1:00 p.m. and then drove to my niece`s house in Oshawa. She is a CTMH demonstrator and I had ordered a pack of papers, some matching stickers as well as a card making book which is awesome! Lots of layouts in it with templates. Since I can`t print from my laptop, I will try to save the pdf files I want, email them to myself at work, and then print them there on paper that I will supply. We had planned to have tea with my niece but her little guy Nathaniel (13 months) came down with a fever a few days ago and broke out into a rash yesterday. My niece, Krista, thinks it may be chicken pox and did not want to expose us to it. I looked at Nathaniel`s rash, but it was too soon to tell if it is chicken pox. The ironic thing about it all is that Nathaniel has an appointment with the doctor tomorrow to get his chicken pox vaccine!

Creative Show

I am looking forward to attending the Creative Show tomorrow at the Metropolitan Toronto Convention Centre in downtown Toronto tomorrow. I have been attending this show for years and am rarely disappointed. It used to be called the Creative Stitching and Needlework Festival but over the years, more and more different crafts were displayed. As far as Cross Stich is concerned, there aren't as many vendors as there used to be. Stoney Creek had a booth there for a number of years but I haven't seen them there for a couple of years. A few cross stitch vendors from the USA used to come too, but now there are only about 5 or 6 cross stitch vendors. There has always been lots for the sewer and quilter but the number of cross stitch vendors has been dwindling at the show.

The name was changed to the Creative Show several years ago to represent all the different crafts that are there. There is something for every crafter, be it beading, needlearts (knitting, cross stitch, crochet etc.) as well as quilting, sewing, scrapbooking, cardmaking, decoupage, quilling, painting and artist supplies and the list goes on and on. One of the reasons I want to go is to buy the Weeks Dye Works floss needed to stitch this design that I bought in Northern Michigan in Sep. :

Anyone who knows me well, knows how much I love my coffee! My daughter even bought me a gag gift from Tim Horton's one year for Christmas. It is a Carafe in the same colour and shape as their (at that time) travel mug. I brought it in to work one day for a joke when our Manager had arranged free coffee for our department from Tim Horton's.

I am also looking forward to seeing all the beads and also paper crafts and tools for paper crafts. I might even take part in one of the make and takes that will be available at some of the booths.

Here is a link to the show's website:

As you can see there is something for everyone.

Back at work

Hubby went back to work today on light duty for the first time since July 10th. He will be working 3 hours/day and they will gradually increase his hours. He thoroughly enjoyed being back at work but was bored silly stuffing screws into baggies. The 2 ladies that sat with him spoke to each other in their own language which didn't help matters any. He is finding it hard to keep his eyes open tonight even though he took a rather lengthy nap this afternoon. While he was at home recuperating from his surgery, he would nap several times during the day. He probably spent most of his time either napping, snacking, eating or "just resting his eyes" during his recuperation. I have a feeling it will take his body a while to adjust to a normal working day again.

If I had done what he had done, I would probably look like the good year blimp by now! Hubby has not gained so much as an ounce! He has only gained maybe 10 lbs. in the 38 years I've known him. I'd rather not say how much I've gained in the same time period. Suffice to say, it's a wee bit more than 10 lbs.!

Some more Christmas Cards

I made some more Christmas cards today from a kit that I bought a number of years ago. I spiced them up with some stamps and embellishments.

Cheating!

Since I don't have a printer hooked up to my laptop and my PC is out of commission, and I cannot print out any templates; I bought this today when I dropped into my Scrap booking Store on my lunch hour today. The only problem is, this did not come with instructions so I have to wing it. Oh well, I've always loved a challenge! I have made 4 of the boxes so far and only struggled with one of them. There are 20 designs and each box has 2 different patterns printed on each side, so I can make 40 boxes. Not sure what I will be doing with them, but will probably give them to family and will fill them with wrapped chocolates or wrapped candies. Some of the embellishments were included but made from paper. I just need to "bling" them up with ribbon, brads, glitter etc.

Here are.........

Here are 6 of the 10 cards I made last week Saturday in the SU Christmas Card class.

My 3 yr. old granddaughter Sierra, thought a ribbon would look nice on this card. I "borrowed" her finger while I made the knot.

WCMD

World card making day is today and I made this card to celebrate:

I made 10 Christmas cards last week Saturday at an SU Card making event. I will post pictures of them soon. I also made 2 other cards this morning as well as a card that I made at a make n take at a store in St. Jacob's named the Scrapping Turtle. I spent 40 minutes in that store and bought some paper, brads, mini pop dots, paper distresser and a paper craft knife.

I still need to take pictures of the 2 cards I made this morning as well as the make n take card. Will post pictures soon.
