Pals Paper Arts 193

I went shopping with my friend the other day to a store I had never heard of.  The name of the store is DeSerres.  They used to be called Loomis and Toles.  They have every kind of craft items you can think of.  Most of the craft items were for painting but they also had kids' crafts, paper crafts, jewellery making beads, paint, paint brushes etc. etc. etc.  Their paper crafting section isn't very big but they had all kinds of 8 1/2 x 11 shimmer card stock in a variety of colours.  I bought some spring colours and couldn't wait to make a card or 2 with the paper.

Pals Paper Arts this week has a sketch that I wanted to play along with using the shimmer card stock.  Here is the sketch:
Here are the 2 cards I made using the sketch as inspiration:

All the scallop circles and butterflies were punched from the shimmer card stock.  The butterflies were punched using a Creative Memories punch that I have had for several years.  I love this punch!  The scallop circles were punched using a 1 1/4 inch using an ek Success punch.  I love the bright cheerful spring like colours on this card.  The sentiment which is by Hero Arts clear stamp set made especially for Operation Write Home and a portion of the proceeds help to fund Operation Write Home.  It was stamped using Memento Ink - Grape Jelly.

For the second card I rotated the card base as the stars were too big to fit horizontally so I flipped it vertically:

All the stars were punched out of the shimmer card stock.  The larger stars were punched using a Martha Stewart punch all over the page and the smaller stars were punched using a Recollections punch.  The sentiment which was stamped using Heidi Swapp Archival Dye ink in Teal is also from the same stamp set I used on the 1st card.

I am very pleased at how these cards turned out and will have to make a third card as I have 3 granddaughters who will be the recipients of these cards.  I will probably die cut some flowers for the 3rd card and attach them to scallop circles.  I also intend to add some bling to the butterflies as Brooke, the 6 year old loves bling.  I'm sure the girls will love the bright spring colours I used to create the cards.

Thanks for stopping by and please leave me a comment as I love to read them.  Have a great day and if you live in Canada as I do stay warm!!

Freshly made Sketches #122

I haven't played along with Freshly Made Sketches in a while and when I saw this week's sketch; I thought I would change that.

Here is the sketch:
Here is my card using the sketch as inspiration:

I started off with a white card stock base, added a layer of pink card stock, followed by a layer of design paper from White Rose Studio - Butterfly Garden and the centre strip of the green leaves is also from the same 6 x 6 paper pad.  I added a white border to the pale pink card stock which has the sentiment by Stampendous which was stamped using Versa Fine Crimson Red Ink.  The rose which is by Taylored Expressions Rosy Posy stamp set was heat embossed on vellum and then sponged using SU's Purely Pomegranate.  I started by lightly sponging the rose and then sponging a little heavier for the center of the rose.

Thanks for stopping by and have an awesome creative day!

Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #205

I really like the sketch at Sweet Sunday this week and decided to play along.

Here is the sketch:

Here is the card I made:

White cardstock base and the design paper is from Doodlebug 6 x 6 paper pad - Sweetheart.  The sentiment was stamped with Versafine Crimson Red ink.  I love the little flag detail on the side of the card and all the hearts.

Tuesday morning sketches and vellum

I just recently found some inspiration for making cards with vellum.  When I saw the Tuesday morning sketch for this week, I knew I could make a card using vellum for the main focus of my card.  Here is the sketch:

And here is my card:

I changed the orientation to landscape for this card because of the design paper which is from Wild Rose Studio 6 x 6 paper pad Annabelle's garden.  I popped up the main focal point onto 3D foam pads.  The sentiment is by Magenta and was stamped with Versa Fine Red Crimson ink.  The image is from CTMH - Happy Valentine which was a stamp of the month which I bought from my niece Krista who is a CTMH consultant.  It is hard to see but I used my Dove Blender pen to colour the image. White card stock base and the darker pink card stock matches the design paper perfectly.  I used a lighter pink card stock for the strip to set off the main image.

And just for fun, I also used vellum on this card:

I heat embossed and coloured in the image with my blender pen using SU's Wasabi Green for the leaves and SU's Purely Pomegrante.  I then fussy cut the image.  It took a lot longer to cut the image than it did to heat emboss and colour it.  I love how it turned out.  The sentiment from Cornish Heritage Farms was stamped using Versafine Crimson Red ink onto a Spellbinder's die.  Pink card stock base and rose image embossing folder sets off this image nicely.  I am really pleased with how this card turned out considering it was the first time I ever used vellum for an image.

If you've ever used vellum on a card; please post a comment with a link to your blog so I can check it out!
Thanks for stopping by and have an awesome creative day!

DD#88 & FMS121

This week's Dynamic Duos Challenge has an interesting colour duo of red and teal.  I would never have thought to put those 2 colours together.  However; after I made my card; I rather like it!  I used the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  I think it took me all of about 3 minutes to make my card.

Here are both challenges:

The sketch is a very easy sketch and it is also very clean and simple which I like.  Here is the card I created:

White card stock base, 2 red card stock hearts which were punched using a Martha Stewart punch for the small heart and a Marvy punch for the larger heart.  The small heart was popped up on a 3D dimensional square. The teal card stock square was punched with a EK Success punch.  The sentiment is from Taylored Expressions - Kiss Me and was stamped with Versafine - Crimson Red.  This card will be going to a child at The Hospital for Sick Children here in Toronto.  I am on the Smiley Team for Kards for Kids HSC and am having lots of fun creating cards for the children.
